Re: T-giving Council Report

I don't have a lot of time so this is just a quick report on T-giving
council. I assume someone else will also write a more detailed
account.

In attendance were approx. 30-40 folks. About evenly split in terms of
age and gathering experience. The usual number of dogs and a couple of
horses showed up as well. Was nice to see the young eager folks there,
and see how very excited about scouting and next year in general they
were. There were less local family than I expected, but enough to put
in the energy to help Chuck get a nice safe warm space together. There
were three heated tipi's, two school buses, and one travel trailer on
the set plus Chuck's bedroom and living room looked like a homeless
shelter at night. The weather was cold low 30's in the day, near zero
at night, with two feet of snow on the ground. Somehow I ended up
being the parking person and Catherine and I cooked quite a bit as
well. All fun, and incredibly no one got their vehicle stuck in the
snow (Chuck's drivway is a long up hill climb with little turning area
at the top).
Bussiness wise I only paid attention the first day as I had my own
agenda item to pursue and once it was dealt with I sort of moved on to
cooking, etc. There was a very good dialogue on the scouting process
and what changes needed to be made from the less than ideal situation
last year. Amazingly we got thru it without too much finger pointing
and throwing rocks. The result was that dates have been set for an
initial scout rondezvous, a second rondezvous and spring council. I
believe these are the correct dates (I didn't pay much attention to
the actual dates as it was the process I was more interested in). May
1st for the first rondezvous (an exact place for this was being
decided as I dropped out of the conversation), June 2nd for the
second. And June 10th for spring council. The thinking was that folks
would get together at the first rondezvous, go over maps and take off
either in groups or individually to scout. At the second rondezvous
results would be compared and there would be an eight day period for
anyone interested to go and look at any potential sites (if there is
more than one, lol) and the results would be presented to spring
council.
Additionally, there was deemed a need/desire for an in state scouting
central location (can you say semi-mobile scout base camp) where
anyone coming to do scouting is being asked to check in (most of
Wyoming is not in cell zone coverage) so folks stay on the same page
in terms of who's looking where. Also, anyone with a scouted potential
site is being asked to report personally at the second rondezvous for
it to be considered viable. It was felt that anything found after the
2nd of June would not allow enough time to be evaluated by others, etc.
Personally, I'm satisfied that at least a process was set up, as
compared to last year. I'm not particularly happy with the semi mobile
scout camp idea which I see as nothing more than a holding camp for
folks without the where with all to actually scout, but....... And
the dates don't work for me, I can't make May 1st, probably not even
June 2nd, oh well. So I guess what Catherine and I will do is simply
go to Wyoming in early June and enjoy camping and exploring the Big
Horn Mountains (which I consider the most beautiful in the lower 48,
and I've seen most of the rest, lol) and walk out on the glacier there.
I'm getting too old to scout anymore anyway, lol.
Whatever else happened or was consensed too, you'll have to wait to
find out as we had to catch a flight out the afternoon of the second
day. There was a scribe (Starfire) and I'm sure she will post
something when time allows. ------- S

kind,
thank you for the report, i was excited to hear so much, that if i
didn't read rick's post i probably at 1st wouldn't of printed, thank
you for the report.

i guess i just really like rainbow family of living light gatherings.
especially when coming out of being so crippled that i thought i never
be able to attend another one, something that never really crossed my
mind when at the gatherings. to me it has been like, we shall be
gathering forever annually & regionaly till the end of time of earth &
if time exists as this when earth may end, there we still would be
gathering cyclicly like annually probably. or somehow find a way to
gather together if we aren't gathered together.

what came to mind from your report is: was there anyone experienced
already in pre scouting of the land that sites existed to go look at.
though forests service i'm sure has some good recommendations, & i
assume is inquired upon by scouting time or then. local rainbow family
there, i'd assume may have some sites to seek out, was that happening,
or do they have to be checked into through litelines?
for with nothing to go on, unless from previous scouting trips when
gatherings were proposed in that area, that information is available,
seems like maybe too much in such a short time. for if 25 people scout
& divide up the areas to check out then meet back with 1 week to go
check out these sites, that seems well, very short, like impossible
almost to make a sound decision seeing how large of an area is there &
time it takes to agree upon several sites. i assume you know what i
mean here, since you've scouted before. not that i have, but i have
scouted somewhat in my ventures in the national forests. & know its
very time consuming. & if snow encountered in spring, that is there in
late may like 2 feet of snow can be gone in 2 weeks when june comes.
so judging scenes like that isn't all that easy for the inexperienced
& i assume the area is very snowed in may 1st.
i'd suggest at may 25th that labor day weekend to give 2 weeks to
check out sites chosen so one hasn't have to rush decisions like that.
with new moon on june 3rd not much lite at nite to see how the place
looks at nitetime, which out there can be bright enough like almost
dusk when full moon is happening. which allows hiking in dark, that
can't happen when new moon is, so more time is needed. new moon on
july 2nd so this coming years annual won't have moon lite blessings
this year. full moon is on 19th of may, 18th june & july.

please tell us some tales of your scouting, it seems it could only
bless.

kind

i just don't see how from june 2,nd to june 8th that enough time
exists to judge unless a place is already chosen, or a few to choose
from from now that only want to be certified by rechecking. i thought
i read in your scouting posts in past that just going to one site can
take 3 days, one there, one to check it & another to to leave to go to
another at shortest time, with no problems happening.

i know if by may 1st if blessing happen, i'd sure be glad to help out
in scouting & would appreciate your comments concerning what i'm
asking unless its not seen with clarity what i'm asking. even in years
to come, that kind of facts should be known.

hearing from scouts the process of scouting. details, what to look
for, what to expect, time involved etc... that could be a blessing to
newbies to know instead of going at it cold turkey. or raw like that
with not much or amy help from scouts from past.

i'd really enjoy scouting just to witness these blessed scenes of
nature that happen chekcing sites out.
