Man dies after cutting neck, being Tasered by police

A schizophrenic man who had been drinking cut his neck as deputies
used a Taser on him and he later died at Kern Medical Center.
The man, whose name was not released, was in an apartment in the 800
block of Roberts Lane when deputies arrived at 7:50 p.m. on Sunday,
according to a Sheriff's Department news release. Deputies found the
man in a bedroom holding a knife to his neck. He refused to comply
with repeated commands to drop the knife.
Deputies used a Taser on the man just as he pierced his neck with the
knife, the news release said. He was transported to KMC and later
pronounced dead.

====================================
Instead of LEOs being properly trained in how to work with persons
with severe psychiatric disabilities, Cops are showing a nationwide
trend of 'taking the easy way" and just pulling out a taser and going
at it. If LEOs had properly used intervention skills this sad
occurance might not have happened and one less internally tortured
human being might not be dead.
I anticipate a much greater increase of tasers at LEO-Gatherers
confrontations. I am much more worried about tasers actually being
used routinely and often than I am worried about a threat from a
scared kid (LEO) with an M-16.
One of the hoped for side results of getting the FS to stop suspending
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 would be that FS Leos are
required to comply and possibly curb their unnecessary use of force
and tasers.
