Round up the usual "deus ex machina"

deus ex machina ("god in the machine" or something close to it)
features strongly in the euripides play "Medea", when a dragon drawn
chariot sent from the gods (and on the stage, was lowered down by an
archaic crane structure) to save/restore the plausability of a play or
story.
Nowadays, our modern deus ex machina consists of the promises of a
presidential candidate, the "hint" of some upcoming life-saving
technology, or the bald assertions by our leaders that one day our
worldwide "war on terror" will end when the terrorists lay down their
arms and accept our democracy.
Maybe the Aliens, or Jesus, or some technological device will pull our
fat from the fire.
Until then, "it's all good man" .............
