Mayan Calendar

So I looked up "Mayan Calendar" on Wikipedia and saw nothing about the end of the world, It did mention that the calendar is actually a "system of calendars and almanacs," and that they are cyclical. When the end of the cycle is reached, the calendar "resets."

I got curious, because it seems we have all heard that the Mayan calendar is going to end in 2012. Apparently, that's not the case. It will just be the end of a cycle, and there appears to be no evidence of apocalypic beliefs in the Mayan culture around the resetting of the calendar, either.

Seems the whole "end of the mayan calendar" thing is an urban legend. Sorry, folks. It's not true.
Anyway, I block the Apocalypse. I'm holding out for massive enlightenment.

No wonder all these cult leaders are so effective in leading mass
suicides. I at least wanna wait 'til the end of the Mayan calandar-
roughly 5 1/2 years and counting! Any clues as to what will actually
happen on that day? -w-
