Actually, there shouldn't be any politicians. at all. we should all be at
the main circle and all get to play shanti shena.
Shanti Sena is no game.
_ _ _ Only true in US gatherings, where it is a professional uberclass. In
other parts of the world everyone is Shanti Sena.
As long as mendacity exists there will be politicians, even at Main
Circle.
I usually walk on by Main Circle. Listening to people sing their
heartsongs has its place, but I'd rather do the Buddha.

As i recall, paine was pelted with projectiles of varying size, weight and
density nearly everywhere he went. common sense shoulda told him not to >
mess with the hallucinations of the hypnotized.
Are you recalling that, or repeating something you read? A biography
I read said the harrassment stopped when some friends of Paine's, ones
he had wintered at Valley Forge with, stopped by to see how he was
doing.....
When Paine saw that the Colonists had traded the British aristocracy
for the Virginian aristocracy he moved to France. %~\
_ _ _ He was imprisoned there (pissed off Robespierre). And very nearly got
himself executed. The man couldn't keep his mouth shut.
In the interest of national security 'We the People' prolly need a
commander in chief, some of the qualifications ought to be that he be
able to play a strong game of chess and be fluent in the tactics of
Sun Tzu, but I see no need for a president to preside; that is, given
the nation needs to exist at all. To 'preside' is a euphamism for to
'rule.' In a free government of the people the people's will ought
to hold sway, but G.W.Bush has said flat out that he doesn't care what
the people of this country think. Dubya doesn't have the mentality to
couch his infamy in euphamisms, his will is supreme and divine, and
"the decider" is synonymous with 'dictator.'
_ _ _ Maybe what we are witnessing are the death throes of the nation state
and the birth pangs of something else. Hopefully more representative. I have
felt for a long time the old system has been getting nastier with each
decade because it's on the run and it knows it. Not going to go away easy.
"SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave
little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only
different, but have different origins." - from Paine's pamphlet
"Common Sense"
The moment any office sanctifies the holder of it, the divine right of
kings lives and breathes, and the end justifies any means.
_ _ _ Even in a (dis-)organization where the only official post is shitter
digger.
