Re: What Mark Rey and the Rainbow High Holies DON'T WANT YOU TO READ!

well, come to find out that the only goal of Rainbow gatherings is to
gather. i made the silly mistake of believing gatherings were preamble
to a Movement. the goal of gathering is to gather and that is
accomplished but nothing more can be hoped for or expected. the
gathering ends and then that's it ... at least for the past 30 yrs or
so thus far.

This is quite simply false. More of your puerile angst ridden whining
because people wouldn't become the movement you envisioned and do the
political work you wanted them to. I alone know at least 50 people who
have had life changing experiences at rainbow gatherings. By your
standards no retreat, ceremony, or gathering of any kind can have any
value unless it produces some ongoing "movement" to effect social or
political change. A sundance lasts 8 days, then the people go home. No
movement is produced so nothing happened, nothing was accomplished?
There are sundances that have been ongoing for more years than rainbow
without producing a "movement" So they gathered and that's all that was
accomplished? A medicine wheel ceremony lasts 3 to 5 days. No ongoing
movement for political change so nothing was accomplished? All over the
world for centuries at buddhist and hindu temples people gather
together at certain times of the year to chant for 3 to 7 days
straight. But no sustained political or social movement results so
nothing happened? The only explanation I can guess at for your inane
conclusions regarding rainbow is that you have never had a profound
meaningful spiritual or consiousness raising experience in your life
and have no idea how life changing it can be or how it affects not only
oneself but all those around by the change in behavior.

it might be that some folks were as silly as i was and
upon discovering that no sustained Movment was forthcoming in the
Rainbow context turned their goal oriented attention and energies
elsewhere. the new kids get it from the get go, have no expectations
other than in the moment so they party,

I know many new "kids" that have come to sweat lodges and have had
meaningful life changing experiences at a rainbow gathering. Your
projecting your angst ridden nonsense on people you don't know nor do
you have any idea what they do at rainbow gatherings or what they
experience there. Here's a clue, not everyone considers the creation of
a "movement" to be the only valuable or worthwhile goal of gatherings,
rainbow or other.

have a good time without having
social/political changes in mind. i don't know. maybe nothing has
really changed but me.
