Gas prices and getting home....

Wherever "home" ends up being for you this summer one thing that is
gonna make it extremely hard for some is GA$ PRICE$ !!!

If you are on the east coast and are thinking of going to Colorado....
or are out west and are planning on going to the Ozarks.... this summer
ga$ is gonna be up to $4.00 in some places.... and as much as $5.00 in
others.

Now more than ever ride sharing is gonna be the way to go.... there are
many places out here to find rides and riders.

The basic jist of ride sharing is to get everyone where they are going
for a lot less and safely.... and the best way to do this is to find
others that are going where you are and share the ride.... this can be
great in a couple of ways.

- You get to meet new people
- You get to save money
- You get where you are going a lot faster

Tips for ride sharing:

- Do not assume that everyone is trustworthy***
- Try to plan at least 1 month in advance
- Try to meet with those that you wll be riding with at least 2 weeks
before leaving
- Set rules for the trip**.... the last thing you need is for something
to go out of wack
- Factor into the trip at least $200 emergency funds
- Make sure your vehicle is all legal and papers are up to date
- Make sure all lights are working on your vehicle (head, tail,
runners)

** One of the rules I set in "my" vehicle is no illegal drugs.... the
thing about this is that in some states even if the driver is not the
person in possession they are arrested becuz the person that is in
possession is riding in their vehicle.

Another is ALL drivers must possess and show a valid drivers
license.... imagine getting pulled over and the person that is driving
your vehicle gets popped for not having one.... in some states they
will tow your vehicle even if you are not the one that was driving.

The one thing that LEOs at gatherings look for when vehocles come in is
LIGHTS !!! head lights, tail lights, runner lights (those orange lights
on the side of school buses and large trucks), and if you are pulling
something they look for proper tow lights.... if even one of them is
not working you will get stopped and ticketed.

SPEED !!! watch your speed.... the one thing that will get you pulled
over faster than anything is a HUGE ass schoolie filled with a bunch of
long hairs speeding.... if the sign says 15mph do 10.... if is says
10mph do 5.... if it says 55mph then do 50.

*** Temp not lest you be lifted from.... not everyone that attends
gatherings has well meaning intentions.

Theft is a HUGE problem at gatherings.... and I personally have been
the victim of theft both at gatherings and while enroute to gatherings.

ALSO, make sure that those that are riding with you understand that the
trip does cost money.... especially if you are driving across country
with a schoolie.... try to get all funds from all riders at least 7
days prior to leaving.

One way to make sure that all funds collected go towards the trip is to
put the money on a pre-paid check card.... if there is a Money Box or
Ace Check Cash in your area they sell them for $9.95 and you can use
them just like an ATM card.

This way you also have a record of what was spent where and when.

Some of the sites out here that you can find rides and riders:

Be safe, save money, save the earth by sharing the ride, and most of
all have PHUNN !!!
