You say "Convert" to run biodiesel, but to the best of my knowledge, no
real conversion is needed, at least not initially. In "From the Fryer to
the Fuel Tank" by Joshua Tickell (ISBN: 0970722702) it indicates that the
only parts the might need to be replaced are the rubber components of the
fuel system, and only if they are natural rubber. And even then, it can
delayed for a fair amount of time. The specific passage i am thinking of
is on page 39 :
"... The alcohol in biodiesel deteriorates rubber. If an engine will be
using 100% Biodiesel for over 100,000 miles (160,000 kilometers), it is
wise to replace rubber fuel hoses and seals with Viton® or another brand
of fluroelastomer hoses and seals. All synthetic hoses and seals
resistant to oxygenated fuels, methanol, and ethanol, are suitable for use
with biodiesel. Synthetic hoses are common on European made diesel
vehicles. ... B20 does not cause deterioration of rubber fuel parts as
rapidly as 100% biodiesel."
What do You mean mean by "converting" an engine to run biodiesel? Are
just talking about replacing the rubber components of the fuel system? Or
are You thinking of something more? Any information You can provide will
be greatly appreciated.
