Healthier, tastier foods have been under production since the beginning
of time. When humans began to find that certain plants produced
tastier fruit, veggies, nuts, seeds, etc, than others, humans began to
propogate those better tasting ones. Over millenium, we now have
delicious stone fruits with more fruit than seed, greens that lack the
bitterness of their early cousins, nuts that are larger and sweeter,
etc...
The first foods that people foraged were likely far inferior to those
we have today. It isn't genetic engineering, it is selective breeding
for desirable traits, and is perfectly healthy for all concerned.
Small farmers, specialty seed companies and backyard gardeners are all
still working to develop stronger, more delicious foods.
We do not need Monsanto to feed the world, we need good sense and
access good seed stock, water and soil building materials. I like the
new, but some things are best to go the time tested ways with.
Love,
Dia
