Re: He who defines: was/Re: From MSNBC.com

Uh, Subkommander Dred is Pete Deer, a nurse who spent a couple of weeks
here during and after Rita. And yes, it's a cute handle because he has
really short hair. If, by "Hipstory" you mean "Stuff I Made Up Because
I'm Pathetic," then I understand your response to Pete's post. But for
the record:

I have never solicited or received any "magic hat donations" for any of
my activities ever. Nor would I. Too much red tape and handling
"magic hat donations" makes trolls like Insanity think they've been
granted license to slander without consequence. Whenver I hear
someone make accusations or innuendo concerning misappropriation of
"magic hat donations," I assume s/he is making a statement about how
s/he would handle funds.

Indeed, in March/April of 1998, I helped five people file suit on
their specific request in Missinhippie. (They called me because we had
recently miraculously obtained an injunction against harassment in
Ocala). Lots of mean cops, 130 people (of 400) in jail. Pregnant
woman tied to tree. Strip searches. Nasty business.

I seem to recall one major donor (who rode there with me), a little out
of pocket from myself and SCA, and our lawyer actually sent us $50
while working the case over the phone pro bono. We put out a
fundraising plea and I think some people sent us some money. The trust
is gratifying and justified. Many thanks to anyone who contributed I
forgot about. We were doing important work, just like we are in
Waveland now.

I don't recall press outreach. I seem to recall a story in the Jackson
paper, but not sure how it got there or if I was interviewed. Although
there was never a ruling in the case, the US Attorney ordered an end to
the harassment and the prisoners were all freed as I recall. Pretty
good results for a bluff (we did have standing, btw. Just a moot case
after the hippies left). I almost conned an agreed Order out of the US
Attorney. I think I blinked while considering how much unlicensed law
I was practicing at the time.

Anyway, thanks for your support, Insanity. It's nice to be reminded by
a wingnut I really don't like or respect that I do have a long record
of service to humanity and justice and the Family. As always, it's my
pleasure.

Although I don't require external validation, my inbox is full of just
that nonetheless. I try to pass every word of it on to the folks
busting their asses here in the Cafe day after day. I was out of town
when MSNBC showed up. We never solicit press here. We're too busy and
we are, after all, a compelling story they were bound to find. The
good press is nice, but we do fine without it. (But didn't Aaron do a
great job for that one?!)

You and Marty *are* making fools of yourselves. All that's going on
here in Waveland is the total validation of 35 years of Rainbow
Gatherings. But what do you care? It's not like you actually *go* to
Rainbow Gatherings where you might just have to face in person, mono a
mono, me or one of the many other good people you slander here with
regularity. You and Marty are beyond pathetic. And I'd be happy to
say that to your faces if you'd just show them.

You might think about revising your handle. If insulting the hard and
unselfish work of others is what you call "Sanity," then sign me up for
the nuthouse.

Still in Loving Service (and not quite sure why I responded to a crazy
person)

PS It's REMA, not NRMT, and to join, you merely need to DO SOMETHING
that helps people. Old Rainbow Proverb: If you want it done your
way, you do it. In the meantime, you have no right to complain about
the way the folks who are doing it do it.

PPS I'd like to thank everyone who has done anything to support our
efforts here and in NOLA. We couldn't do it without you.
