IM 1997 a major strom blew in to m the norhtern calif area .... and the marysville area was partial flooded .... in fact what later became my property was covered in 10' of water .... I was in a nearby town at the time named wheatland .... which as fortune had it .... was the location for the red cross refugy center in this area... and I decied to offer my services ... I learned a great d eal from the expericne....... since this was alst minute thing ... most fo the red cross voulenters had realoly little understanding of what it was like ot cook for a group of this size so I stepped in ... and beagn running to food service movie .... what I dicsovered was ...that a garet nukmber of people fall thru the beauacratic cracks .... in the smnall town we were in.. there were conclaves of people .... camps and clusters ... of folks who simply had no where to ... yet by nature could not deal with the authoritative rules and regulations of a red cross run center .....(wasnt my cup of tea either) ... and it occured ot me then that a net work of rainbow kitchens could make a real diference in the practical and real lives of people who were affected by these kinds of desasters......and I agree this would be an excelent opportunity for any rainbow kitchen who cares ot chip in.... to show that "living light" in action..... I doubt seriously that any free kithcen ..that showed up in an outlaying area .( not in the down town of course ) and who set up an aid center providing shelter ( it is raining after all) as well as food and general comfort.... would be greatly apperciated by those who matter the most ... the local people in need ... need of food .... comfort and simple open frienship..... what ever local services which might have exesoted to provode support ... are in all likely ... in most areas ... are struck themselves .... so whos left to provide this assistance ..... the feds ... and provate parties.... no virginia ... the locals woont turn away help.... they take it ... and for ever be greatful that a buss or two or more .... of comassionate hippies ...came to this strange town ..where ever it is.. to offer help... simply given from the heart..... if anyone knows of a known kitchen whos traveling in that direction i9n6tending to do just this ...I wold be more then happy oty make a donation to the cuase ... just have them get in touch with me
