I started off missing the epic scale of vanilla wow, the zones felt like
zones. These days the world just feels like a huge bunch of quest hubs
linked together. I think I prefer the Cata way of doing things now, but
I do miss the sense of achievement in Vanilla WoW, when you managed to
grab all the instance quests, saved up your rest time, and spent 3 hours
in Wailing Caverns, on a full run, which gave you a full bar of XP! :D

If you haven't already tried it, you need to do the updated Forsaken
leveling story. It is by FAR the most engaging, lore-filled experience
you will find. The story from your resurrection by the Val'kyr right
through Brill, Tirisfal, Southshore, Hinterlands and the Plaguelands is
probably the best storyline work they have ever done.

As a recent faction-switcher to Horde, I'm finding a lot of the
storylines from the Alliance side become much more complete by seeing
the Horde perspective as well.

A few highlights to look forward to:
- Riding alongside Sylvanas while she throws a lore bonanza at you.
- Participate in the fight for control of Gilneas.
- Getting to play questgiver in Southshore, then joining those NPCs
later in (some more than others) epic storylines.
- Fighting alongside the Val'kyr.
- A MAJOR lore figure gets knocked off when you least expect it.

And that's all before even reaching level 30.

I was planning on starting a warlock at some point, might as well make
it an undead one! :D

Go for it, those zones are absolutely fantastic! Used to be humans had
the best zones in the game (Duskwood as a particular highlight) but
nowadays the Forsaken story is amazing, totally worth doing the whole
lot. Only downside is Arathi didn't really change and is pretty
boring, but with luck you'll be able to skip it anyway from fast
levelling ;-)
