I think that I'm about to resubscribe* but I'm re-installing from
scratch instead of keeping my old install files to try and solve a
similar issue that I have. I'm hoping my issue's going to be fixed
too (a frequent 3 - 8 second lag spike which may, or may not, be
actual network lag but it looked like that kind of effect).

Unfortunately what I had sounds totally different. I had no lag spikes
at all, just the second I entered combat in a raid, it was like
watching a movie slowed down to one frame every few seconds. I used to
have an old computer, NVidea 5400 card, 512 MB RAM, and it reminded me
of what trying to move in Dalaran was like. Take a step, wait 20
seconds, take another step, wait 20 seconds.

I am a compter ninny, which you might not be, so my apologies if this
sounds insulting, but I have actually found the solution to many of my
WoW-related technical issues on the Technical Support Forums. At the
very least, when I am having some issue, I have gone there to discover
that others are also having the same issue, and I try the things they
have tried. Maybe others are having three-to-eight-second lag spikes,
as well. Maybe it's an issue on Blizzard's end. But I can totally
understand how that would be extremely frustrating while trying to
play the game. Did it start with a particular patch?

:) I never even thought of the forums as an option to find a solution to the problem. That's because my experiences of the rest of the forums have left me with a very (very) low opinion of them*.

In my experience, technical forums tend to be better than other forums so I'll give it a go if the reinstall didn't fix it. Thanks for the idea.

* Rift forums are exactly the same. Everyone's whining about something - if they're not whining about something in the game, they're whining about all the whining on the forums. The only reason why I was putting up with them is because there isn't a relevant usenet group to use. :P
