Its slow, mainly because of sluggish movement underwater.
I've heard a couple times of some questline which grants the questee
the ability to ride on the bottom of water areas, at full speed.
Anyone else heard this? What are the details? This is NOT the abyssal
seahorse in Vashjir

needles recently. He's does herbs and Alch and I'm pretty sure in the
process of leveling there, that I picked up a quest off the ship to kill
X amount of things underwater. During that time, as soon as you jump in
the water a bubble gets formed around your head (familiar to anyone
who's read the Harry Potter books) so you don't have to come up for air,
and when your feet hit bottom you run at normal speed on the bottom.
As soon as your feet come off though (jumping) your swimming slow again.
Now if I recall, there was a bunch of Strangleklep down there.
I don't know if this helps you out or not....You also permanently get a
speedboat mount if you do certain quest lines. Unfortunately, the boat
is only for the 1000 needle lake :(
The quest you mention is 'Down in the Deeps', and while you have it,
you have a 150% swim speed buff. I'll have to look into it.

ahh, that's right. You get a whole underwater gear set up as well. Besides the bubble, you get a water jet pack on your back...That's where the 150% boost comes from....
