I was doing 6-7k on my mage when I started first on heroics and I was in
frost spec (the worst mage dps spec)

and the gear was barely enough to enter a heroic. Even with that dps I
got loads of comments on my crap dps so I repecced to fire very fast and
after I got more gear I started doing like 10k. Now that the mage is
almost in full epics dps on single target is around 13-14k without buffs
and getting close to 16-17k on bosses in raids.
Were you running heroics in the first week after Catclysm?
