heh, I never thought this could happen to me, I'm always extra careful
when it comes to PC security. This morning my bags were empty and I
had 30KG less. There was also a newly created charachter, don't know
what for. Curiously, they only took away things from my toons on
Hakkar, they didn't touch the ones on Saurfang. And they didn't steal
equipped gear, so I can at least run a dungeon until I get my stuff
Guess I will need to get that authenticator after all.
I would venture to say that nearly everyone who does not have an authenticator has already had their account hacked, no matter how careful they think they are with computers. The hacked accounts are sold in large batches to gold sellers. If you think you are not hacked and that your account is safe, the truth is that probably the hacker has not sold your account yet or that the buyer has not gotten around to using it yet.
I think that's a fairly big venture, sorry. I still know a bunch of people that do not use authenticators....Based on that you'd figure that some of them...one of their "turns to have gotten around to" would have happened by now...
In my head I just ran down a list of 12 people I know not using authenticators...Including a nightmare scenario for hacking if I ever saw one - a college student in our guild who has to share an account with her High school sibling (who is on another realm), as the parents at the time they started playing years ago would not get them each an account. So now they both have level 85's on the same account, can't separate them, and are stuck with each other. Sometimes they have to get off because their sibling at home has a raid and needs to log on... (yes, I'm aware that this is against the license, but they do what they have to...)
The point is - Here's a case where two different PC's, in two different states, (one unsecured in a collage dorm, the other in a teenagers bedroom in another state), using the same account - and they have not been hacked ever...
Not saying it can't or won't happen...Just saying...
BTW - just for the record, I *do* use an authenticator :)
