Ah, I hadn't realised there not being new clouds. So engineers without
mining are screwed? Not a problem, as mine is a miner, but still....

No, they are only screwed if they don't have any gathering skill at
all because they can make an Electrostatic Condenser. It "Allows a
skilled engineer to occasionally collect Volatile Air while mining,
skinning, or collecting herbs."

Ah, I see, so at least any gathering profession will potentially yield
volatile air. It's a good thing it's volatile air because if the trend
started by motes and cristallyzed versions, air seem to be the hardest to
get (at least always were for me).

Still, it's a step back from having the mote extractor which worked even if
you had two crafting professions and could be used on any type of cloud, so
gave whatever you farmed for, not just air.
