too many linked quests in CATA... :(

I have gone back and created a Goblin and Wogren to try them out. I
rather liked the new starting areas, BUT...

....in each case, I tried to skip some quests because I was getting ahead
of them and they were green (or even grey in a couple cases). Nope. I
had to go back and do 100% of them or I couldn't move forward.

I hit a similar quest tree in STV with pirates that had the same
problem. Get stuck and no way to move forward (that particular one let
me leave the region though).

I played briefly a level 80 getting him to 83, and it seemed to have the
same quest linkage there too.

I REALLY don't like this new policy of having to do 100% of the quests
in each chain. Are they all like that?

This may be enough to get me to dump WoW finally and move on to
something else... :(
