Is it just my impression or have they considerably improved the drop rates
of any collect-n-of-x quest items? Running my main through half a dozen
Eastern Kingdom low level zones as well as levelling a gnome throwaway from
1 to 8 and now my worgen from 1 to 6 it seems like the drop rate is usually
100% with only a few quests below that and even those were well over 75%.
What is it like in the 80+ zones?
Am I imagining things? If not, THANK YOU Blizzard.
It depends on the quest, in my experience.
I've been mult-boxing 3 toons through the Cataclysm zones, and colleciton quests
are a pain for me as you can imagine, since I have to effectively collect 3 times
the quantity.
I made these observations:
- for some quests, mobs have a 100% quest item drop rate. These quests are ok, as
long as the number of items you need to collect is low.
- for some quests, mobs have a less than 100% quest item drop rate. These are really
annoying.
- however, some quest items can be looted by all party members from one mob, even
when they're not 100% drop rates. These make multi-boxing those quests quite
bearable. In my opinion ALL quest items should be lootable by all party members
from each drop.
The worst quests for me were the "Collect 10 of this" where the quest item only
dropped off every 4th or 5th mob.
Cataclysm has made questing in an area much linear, in that you can't just fly to
a new quest hub and start picking up quests - you need to have done the appropriate
pre-requisite quests first. This means that you can't really skip any quests like
you could in previous expansions, or you find you've suddenly no other choices in
that zone (aarrgghh!). Which is a pain for multi-boxers who hate collection quests
(and there seem to be a lot of collection quests around).
In fact I got stuck once in Uldum; after you've met Harrison Jones and done a few
quests for him, he gives you a quest to explore a temple. All you need to do is
visit 3 separate points in the temple to complete the quest. Return to him to hand
it in and then ... nothing. No more quests from him. Leave them temple, fly over all
of Uldum and still no more quests anywhere. What I'd missed (I *eventually* found
out) was in the temple when I was exploring - there were 2 items in there with a
yellow ! over them that I'd not spotted while I was exploring it. It's a shame that
these zones are so linear now that one small oversight like that can block you for
hours while you scour the zone for the next quest.
Hmm.. I seem to have strayed from the original point. I'd better stop now.
