Ok. As far as I can see, a pet is a pet is a pet. While there may
be small differences 'tween them, the main difference is appearance. Is this
correct?
The three types of pets, ferocity, tenacity, and cunning, have all been mentioned.
In addition, however, each family of pets has a special skill (well, cats and spirit beasts each have two skills). Wolves are popular these days because of Furious Howl. They are not popular with me, though, because Blizzard did a really bad job trying to draw and animate wolves. They did not do so well with bears, either. But that is just me. Please, Blizz: give us some pets with some facial expression?
The fact is that all the pets are very strong -- there are no bad pets. If you are trying to wring the last bit of dps or aggro out of a pet, or if you want a rare animal to show off in town, then of course there really are "best" pets. But just about any pet is usable, whether raiding or soloing. The key to a good pet is knowing its abilities, knowing when to use them and knowing when not to use them. The rest of it is all about the hunter. If a hunter can't keep his boar from pulling aggro off the tank, then he is a lousy hunter. It isn't the pet's fault.
