I believe that the people who are against this are right.

Why would you cancel, your account because of this? I have never posted on
the official forums, I don't read them much (except the UI/API ones) and
don't intend to post there. So this change makes no difference to me.

Of course, it may just herald the general push towards using real id for
other things as well, who knows what is to come. My name is also fairly
unique but I don't have a problem standing up to what I post, though I can
understand that someone prefers not to announce their real name when playing
the game.

My one real concern about real id is account security as it requires to use
my login name. If I had the choice to set a "real id name" on battle net and
could use that to share with people to put them on my friends list I'd be
much happier, but that is an issue of "real id friends", not the current
latest development about real names.

All in all, it has little impact on me (apart from what it might herald) but
it will probably reduce traffic on the forums considerably.

On the other hand, if all the asshats on the forums stop participating or
stop being asshats because their name appreas next to their posts, it might
even be a good thing (tm)....
