I really need the normal flying mount so I can start farming herbs and

1000g (cold weather flying) + ?? (flying mount). So a small way to go
for that.

Hmm, is there anything you can Herb just walking around? Some days
herbs wouldn't sell at all on the AH, while other days I couldn't post
herbs fast enough.

Yes. I no longer do this so I'll tell you the secret. There are two places
in northrend easily gotten to on foot, even by a sub 70, that are (mostly)
safe to herb, especially if you can vanish or otherwise play a get out of
aggro free card (though it's not necessary - it just opens up more spawn
points). The first is in the non-flying section of Storm Peaks - the entire
area around K3 is very lightly patrolled by aggroing mobs, and there's
lichbloom and icethorn galore there.

The other juicy spot is the southern part of Sholazar - if you haven't
made friends with the oracles or frenzyheart yet, there is a giant swath of
jungle that's farmable for 4 different plants, and no hostile mobs at all.
You should ride in from Borean Tundra to do this - the central flight path
(the only one you can use until you can quest in Sholazar) is a little
dangerous for a lowbie and you'll possibly waste more time dying going to
the south edge of the zone than if you simply rode north from Borean.

Just to give you an idea how well this works - I was 450 in herbalism on my
rogue (and 450 alchemy from northrend research) before I was level 71. On a
pvp server flying herb farmers can be a problem since they'll see what
you're up to and squash you like a bug on principle, but at the times of
day I did my herb grinding, it wasn't an issue. I even sapped a few 80s and
stole the herb right out from under their noses a few times.

I don't think it's ever been this easy in any expansion before. There were
a few undefended spawns in BC, but not enough to make running a patrol
pattern worth the trouble, and nightmare vine wasn't really farmable until
you were in the upper 60s (heck, there are nightmare vine spawns that
aren't solo pickable for a 70 at ALL). I am told that mining is nearly
as easy, but I haven't been mining this expansion. *

I can second that. Sholazar Basin is where I got both of my, at the time
level 69-70, herbalists up to 450.
