Is it just me, or have things in-game gotten dull lately?
While I still haven't seen, much less beat, the LK, its mostly due to my
guild self-destructing, and my feeling too wowed-out to find another in
a hurry. The daily Heroic and the weekly raid are done in sleepwalk
mode. There are still quite a few gear items I'd like to get, but the
knowledge that I'll be typing 'DELETE' on them in a few months is quite
demotivating.
There's a new raid instance coming under Wyrmrest, but it will be almost
certainly be on farm by most ICC teams within two or three weeks.
I've been trying to backfill some of my raid achievements, only a
handful of raids are left. Curiously, I've discovered my realm has a
couple 'level 70' guilds, where there is a cap on the level of the
players. I'd be more impressed if it were'nt the case that half the
people in their raids are PUGged 80s (including me).
I've been playing for nearly 3 years, and am starting to think its time
to do something else.
Maybe you just need to take some time off. I had the same feelings about 9 months ago.
I cancelled my subscription and didn't come back for 6 or 7 months.
a friend of a friend who dropped out after a few weeks. They liked it particularly
given they had a tourist guide along giving them freebies and rocketing
their levelling but they just couldn't support the hardware requirements in higher levels.
I have been trying out various other games, some of the betas are quite interesting,
just as buggy and all the joy of being new. Most have people just in it for the fun rather
than long term commitment.
I even found I quite like the freetoplay micropayment model, so long as it is optional
and
not a fashion/guild requirement to have the biggest and best.
2 days grinding or $15 for a 30 slot bag and on with the content ? gimme
The ones with no level cap are interesting , and refashioning gear and abilities with no
limits
beyond a steep cost curve.
Some are exploring roles and cooperation in numbers/specialities and timing doing away
with the tank/threat choreographed encounter model.
Too heavy armour and too fast to take down? equip everyone with sniper rifles from the
armoury and target the eyes. When deaths cost 10% for a day ,stacking, you get REALLY
greatful for a last minute rescue :-)
They aren't WoW but they are a change as good as a holiday.
Maybe you should try it. If you don't ever feel like coming back then don't worry
about it. It's just a way of having fun and passing the time and there's no point doing
it if there's no fun involved.
While 'it is just a game' it seems that for many people it is far more, usually
they are the grumpy guts abusing people taking too long playing this particular part
which is taking time away from their own *far* more important objectives.
