That just made me think of something, however (and you may be
referring to this). I know that when you change your name, you still
appear on others' "friends" lists, with your name updated. If someone
did a name change, and then created an alt with the same name as the
offending character, would they then be able to bypass such a
mechanism, since the friend's list would now reference the level 1?
I don't think so. As I see it, in a database, the name is only one of the
data of the character, as is the race, the class, or the armor penetration
at this time.
You are friend with character number 15425, whose name is DarkLegôlass (I
hope not). He changed his name, the data is updated in your friend list. A
new DarkLegôlass is created, heis in a new character (number 21002) not
related with you, so you don't know he exists until you meet or search for
him.
Right, I agree that this is how it should work, in the case where the
character still exists on the server (albeit with a different name).
However, in this case, the "friend" starting referring to a level 1
rogue. Perhaps, if the original character no longer exists, the
system then attempts to match on name, although that makes no sense
(since name should not be the identifier used). That's the only
explanation I can think of, since you are unable to change a character
from level 80 to level 1 (not to mention the class change).
