It should be one of the abilities on your pet bar that you can
right-click to take it off auto-activation. When in stealth mode
your pet gets an automatic critical hit on it's first attack or
something similar.
There is such a switch on the pet bar, but unfortunately it only stays
on for about 10 seconds and then reverts to stealth again. How do you
switch stealth off permanently or is this not possible?

Make sure the stealth ability (prowl?) is on the pet bar and make sure
you RIGHT-click on it, so the sparkling border disappears. If it is
sparkling, then it is on auto-cast. Not having it on the pet bar will
enable auto casting every time you log on (at least that used to be the
case).

I've had a cat since level 10 and have absolutely no problems with it
stealthing....

Ah. I see. Yeh. My cat stealths up to everything it attacks at the
moment.

What is the bonus for a stealth attack?

I think it does 50% more damage on the first attack or something. Not worth
the effort in my eyes.
