Eternal Water prevents your elemental from using it's freeze, and in PvP,
the freeze means more survivabilty for your mage, and higher burst from

At first I argued against Eternal Water. Now I would NOT go back,
even though I have 2 sets of glyphs that I could
change like socks.

If my skill was such that I could maximize uptime and optimize his
casts, it might come out differently, and if I'd ever played a hunter
I might be better with the pet and would definitely have macros for it
and so on. But I'm seeing far more benefits from the hassle-free pet
uptime than I was from the ranged nova, and this surprised me.
Theres' no way I'd go back.

The other factor to consider is the points in Enduring Winter. Since
there's no Duration component to the elemental, only the mana regen
matters. I think that's probably worth putting one point in, but not
three. Those are three points that can be put into Arcane, I suspect,
in some way that boosts both mana efficiency and benefits party
members in some way. I plan to adjust my spec the minute I ding 80,
which is one bar away, and I'm definitely going to try a bit more of
an Arcane/Frost build for a while.

Personally I don't draw the absolute distinction between PvP and PvE
that other people seem obsessed about. It's just another aspect of
the game that so many people enjoy discussing in absolute terms,
always as if one choice is superlative and the other worthless.

The truth is, everything in this game is a compromise, and there are
usually strengths and weaknesses associated with any given choice that
can be played to/against.
