And that's where addons come in :-) Try TabMixPlus where you can choose the
tabs to be smaller sized depending on the amount of tabs, where you can
choose to have multiple lines of tabs instead of one scrollable line and
many other features.
That's nice but being forced to get an addon just to bring back the
default functionality in another browser seems a little silly? :-)
Ah, bit historically the order is:
- IE has no tabs
- Firefox introduces tabs, though not in a way everybody loves
- somebody hates it enought it create a tab addon such as TabMixPlus (in
fact there are probably dozens)
- Mircosoft decides to copy the tabbed browsing feature but instead of
copying the vanilla firefox look, they copy the modified look
Along comes Catriona who doesn't regularly use Firefox and gets the new IE
which copies a variation of tabbed browsing she likes. Happily she gets used
to it.
Next she looks at vanilla Firefox and thinks, "Gee, tabbed browsing in IE is
certainly nicer than in firefox".
So, of course, from your point of view, there is extra effort to make
Firefox look as nice as IE with regard to tabbing.
From my point of view, I was happy to be able to modify Firefox's tabbedbrowsing to suit my taste even better at a time where tabbed browsing wasn't
even possible on IE.
It's all a matter of perspective and I understand your position but still
insist on thinking Firefox addons a boon, not a burden^^
Yep, I appreciate all that, just still prefer not to be forced to get an
addon just to make it do what another browser does by default ;-)
Obli-WoW: It's a bit the same with WoW-Addons. Somebody might find it
cumbersome that one needs to go through the trouble of installing an addon
like grid+clique for easy healing, whereas others cherish the possibility
having come from games where you were stuck with the default UI :)
True, I'm much the same in WoW as in browsers, only get addons if I see
a need for them. Some people seem to live for addons and want hundreds
(and call others idiots for not using the same ones), I only get the few
I see a genuine need for, and get a bit annoyed at being pushed to use
them.
