I used Urbin's GuildGreet briefly for this exact reason. I didn't want
automatic greetings, but I did like seeing that [Alt1] Main Alt2 Alt2 just
logged in so I'd have a clue.

Hehe, that was a feature I hacked into the original GuildGreet because I was
missing something like it :-) That's how I ended up maintaining it when the
original author quit....

Had I been able to figure out how to disable the greeting window that
popped up so I could easily click out "Hi!" I'd probably still be using it.

Hm, embarassingly I'm not sure if you can disable the list at all... but you
can define its size and you can move it, so just make it 1 line and drag it
off screen somewhere :)

I haven't really had enough time to do more than keep addons working,
certainly not adding new features.
