A question on the badge changes for heroics

Forgive what might be a very stupid question, but are these new badge
drops an automatic thing, or are you still supposed to pick up the
heroic dungeon quests in Dalaran first to get any?

I ask because I avoid Dalaran like the plague; having an older PC
means a 50-50 chance of the computer locking up or kicking me out of
WoW.

If you need the quest, I guess I'll be risking Dal soon :(
