I think it was Catriona R <catrionarNOSPAM@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> that wrote
something like...
Priests are squishy? Far from it IME, especially given they can shield
and heal. No, there's a lot more danger playing a rogue.
Nnah rogues are way easier at the lower levels, in fact at all levels.
My first main was a rogue, 2nd (and 3rd) was a priest, no contest at
all. Priests are fun but very much squishy all the way. Rogues are
squishy at some stages but learning how to use your crowd control
options solves most those problems, so it's just at the lowest levels
before you have your stuns etc that it's particularly hard (and even
then priests are worse - a low level priest is horrible to play, really
slow killing things and takes significantly more damage than the shield
can absrob until much higher levels)
A rogue was the first character I really started with on my main
server back when I started playing WoW about a year after it's
release. Got it up to around 20 where it was fairly quickly over
taken by my priest. Going Combat daggers was apparently a lot of the
problem. But why would you use any other weapon when you've got all
those skills that require a dagger? ^_^
Back then I don't recall any serious troubles leveling my priest.
Certainly I enjoyed it more than the rogue.
Of course, this is all pre-expansions, so I'm not sure there's any
resemblance left to what the lower levels are like now.
But I would actually say that my Shadow Priest is one of the least
squishy characters I have. Sure, that's partly that's because as my
main character, he tends to be geared better than the others but even
so...
In many ways he wasn't as squishy as my warrior was leveling up,
though my warrior's doing better now he's 80 and has gotten good gear.
Mage didn't do *too* badly with frost spec and having that shield, but
still was rather fragile. My elemental shaman is pretty tough and
maybe with similar gear, would be as tough as my spriest, but while
she's just using what she finds as she levels up, she feels more at
risk of dying than I recall the priest feeling. Hunter, well, he's
got his pet which makes things a bit unfair. The warlock is a drain
tanking affliction spec, so is probably about as unsquishy as the
priest.
My rogue has just recently dinged 60 in Hellfire Peninsula. Most
definitely is having a tougher time there than my priest did, but my
priest did have a bit of time gearing up at level 60 from Scholo and
Strath pre-tbc.
Prot pally and Death Knight aren't as squishy as the priest I guess,
but they're more likely to get in over their heads and get killed than
the priest is. With an AoE fear, shield and VE the priest can still
handle a fair amount of mobs at once. Heh, grinding motes of fire and
such at max level pre-wotlk the problem was more that mobs didn't
survive long enough for you to collect a lot of em. ; )
