Yeah, but part of the trouble is newbies don't know about these two
excellent sites.

And hence the FAQ contains those links, and they do all the rest of the
work for you.

I was just watching a video of Linus Torvalds talking at Google on why one
would use git, and he's telling the developers there that if you want to
learn how to use git, there's this marvelous web site called "Google" where
you just put "git" in this little box and click "I'm feeling lucky" and it
takes you to tutorials and documentation.
