Don't worry. The authenticator is a rebranded Vasco DIGIPASS GO 6
which is used in banking and finance as a security system, using
time/event based algorithms.

It uses time and event based authentication. The time is basic, it has
an internal electronic clock that outputs the number of minutes since
it was manufactured. The event is just a counter, it counts the number
of times the button has been pressed (after it's pressed, the counter
is disabled until the time code changes, further button presses just
display the previous readout).

The authenticator generates a pseudo-random number using the time
code. The number is fed into a hash chain (a series of one-way
functions) along with the event counter which gives the 6 digit number
on the display (the actual machine generates a 10-12 digit number but
only the last 6 digits are used).

This can then be checked against the serial number attached to the
account by the server.
