Re: Download (I Think) Question

One thing I am not looking forward to is re-installing WoW from all
three CDs (original game times two expansions), not to mention all the
patch time, not to mention I'm not entirely sure where my CDs are. I
remember when I first got WoW, it took something like six hours to
install due to patches.

If you still have access to your previous installation, just copy over the
whole wow directory - there is no need to start from scratch! The only
thing wow puts in the registry is an uninstall string (which you don't need
since you can simply trash the directory). Everything else simply runs from
the directory itself. WoW is very well behaved for a program its size.

A guildie mentioned that if I have an account, there is some Web site
I can go to and download . . . something from there, so I don't have
to re-install from all the CDs.

There's this:
<http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/download/clients/pc/InstallWoW.exe>

But you will still be downloading tons of patches after the initial huge
download. If you have any access to the wow disks, it is NOT a good
alternative - it will take literally all day. I did this a couple weeks ago
because my PC hadn't even been updated from BC and I forgot that I already
had a cross-platform disk with Lich King.

The Lich king DVD will install all previous game content, and get you
fairly far along in the process - you'll still need to patch from 3.0
forward though, which means more than a gigabyte of patch downloads.

An all-up cumulative installer would be a great thing, but it's not offered
as far as I can tell, probably because blizzard doesn't want people making
a habit of doing it that way. *
