hen I wasnt overbid on most items, I get max 1-2 items
or stuff that I buyout. I use auctioneer advanced and I put it to look
for
items that give at least 10g profit and skill required to DE 350+,
your threshold is too high. I use 1g and 20% with skill 175+ as my
standard. On each of my 3 servers, I get 70-90 items per scan, with
many being buyout. I typically have half the items outbid if I do it in
the evening, or 1/4 outbid when I do it at 1AM in California.
As per my other post, I don't use settings as aggressive as Burt. You need
to be careful with getting too aggressive on the 20% setting as you may have
to discount (price match) a little to get sales through. I normally have to
use a 10-15% "discount" from the auctioneer price to keep the sales ticking
over. If I had only a 20% buffer to start with this I could end up losing
money on a sale.
I let Auctioneer set my prices on sales and place all items with a
single batch click. Roughly 20% will expire and be listed a second
time, but again, I let Auctioneer handle the pricing.
As such, the 20% works for me, since Auctioneer is pricing both ends of
the transaction.
By the way, I often think Auctioneer is selling the mats too cheaply. I
look at individual items and see that I could squeeze considerably more
out of them -- often 20% to 50% more. However, I have then tried to do
the pricing manually to take advantage of that, and found it wasn't
worth it. I would get more money per stack, but I also got more that
expired, and I spent a LOT more time running the AH.
By letting Auctioneer handle both ends in fully automated "buy
everything" and "sell everything" mode, I can make 400g in about 10
minutes of my time. If I decide to push it, I might raise that to 600g,
but my time shoots up past 30 minutes.
I'd rather maximize my gold per minute than my gold per day. This
leaves me more time to do the stuff that spends the gold... :-)
The other thing to remember is that this only works in large volumes. On a
single item you might get unlucky with the DE and end up with a single dust,
or a worthless shard. Or you might get lucky and end up with 3 greater
essences, or 6 dusts. You have to have the funds and the volume to absorb
the unlucky DEs. You need to be looking at the averages over at least 20
items.
Absolutely true! If working with fewer than 50 items per batch, I
expect the results would be a LOT more variable. I may lose money on
any given item, but overall with enough items the odds favor me. Much
like betting in Vegas -- you may win a hand here and there but overall
the house will win given enough hands being bet.
