I tried buying items to DE and resell enchant mats but apparently MANY
people do that... for example I bid on 15 items at 1 AM and in the morning
I'm overbd on everything. I did this 2 times every day for like 2 weeks and
there wasnt 1 time when I wasnt overbid on most items, I get max 1-2 items
or stuff that I buyout. I use auctioneer advanced and I put it to look for
items that give at least 10g profit and skill required to DE 350+, I tried
all skills but I get stuff where I get no profit or even lose money when I
undercut it..
Most of the things people recommend work only on relatively small servers,
if you have a lot of competition most of the 'easy' and profitable markets
have either very low margins or even people selling at a loss. For example
the disenchanting from AH stuff works decently on my server, with around 4g
profit per disenchant. (Medium population server, where most of the players
are on the other side) But the economy is quite slow, so if there happens to
be some competition, there are only few greens to buy and even few extra
people unloading enchanting materials can tank the average price on them for
a week or so.
My professions are:
LW - 435,
You mentioned at least one type of leg armor being profitable. What about
the rest? Now that there's a new arena season, does the resilience one
sell? What about the rare versions? I don't have the profession myself, so
don't really know all what you can get out of them, but I do remember someone
on our server just buying normal borean leather and selling the heavy leather
version. Might not be that profitable per item, but the conversion at least
can be automated.
Enchanting - 442,
Do the scrolls sell? And other professions might have some items that are
profitable to disenchant. All in all large scale disenchanting can be very
tedious as you can't automate it. (Blizzard requires one click per disenchant,
so the items need to be quite profitable for this to be a better alternative
than grinding/farming). Not a steady money maker, but I've found that at least
for the top end enchants I can usually get around 50g to 100g service fee
from people asking for an enchanter in trade chat.
Tailoring - 440,
Hmm. Spellthreads? Mine's an alt and she doesn't have the reputation for the
epic spellthreads, but at least the rare ones sell relatively often. How
expensive is the special cloth? And how well do to the bags sell? (And of
course, is it profitable?) Do the epic cloth armors sell at all? Usually
the epic ones sell quite rarely, and especially now that people don't have
time for their alts, the demand will most likely be relatively low. But if
you're willing to take the risk, usually on larger servers they too end up
selling decently steady.
Alchemy - 450
Elixirs, flasks? Like you, most people will need them a lot. On my server
the prices of Frost Lotuses have skyrocketed, but it's still relatively
profitable to mass produce most of the flasks. Another small, but steady
source of income is to transmute something profitable.
Engineering - 450
Hmm. I haven't found any real money-makers with engineering, but it's
worth a shot to check if the injectors or ammo crates are profitable.
and all gathering professions (hmm would be faster to
write all but blacksmithing :p)
You mentioned having Inscription. Are the vellums selling and profitable?
Inscription has been one of the steady money-makers for me. Though most
likely because there is almost no competition with them. On my server
the old researched glyphs sell for around 10g to 30g and the new ones
from 50g to 100g. The problem is one individual glyph doesn't sell that
often, so I'm keeping a lot of different ones on sale. The deposit costs
are very small, but milling and crafting are quite time consuming.
(Most of the stuff can be automated fortunately)
I read many times that people do insane money on AH but how?
Be on a busy server, find a market niche where you can drive away the
competition or be profitable even with them. Few possible market niches
that also come in mind:
Cross-faction trade:
If you've got a way to transfer stuff between sides, you can always
benefit from the price differences. Or you can sell something that
only the other side has. Vanity pets or recipes are the usual stuff.
But if some things are a lot cheaper on one side, it might be profitable
to sell them too.
Old world materials:
There will always be some demand for pre-TBC & TBC materials, and most
of them are for alts or relearning professions, so there is potential
money in it. The good side of it is that there's usually not that much
competition, the bad of course is that the demand might not be that high
either.
Seasonal things:
People are lazy, so they most likely will buy things like the cakes (or
the eggs for the cake) for childrens week with insane prices. Just check
what the future events need and buy them well beforehand (or grind if
you want) when they are cheap.
Arbitrage from your faction:
Most of the stuff in the AH have varying selling prices. If things are
in high demand in certain days and have a high supply in other days,
then investing a bit on them is in the long run profitable. For example
on my realm the amount of materials on the AH almost doubles at weekends,
when prices usually drop a lot too. Then later the prices climb again.
This usually needs some capital and has the risk of prices dropping in
the long term. Though it helps your crafting/material needs to have some
stashed when the AH prices are high.
All in all, I'd say that one of the important ways to generate more
income is to just spend less. Did you really need the mammoth? ;) Can
you get your guild to contribute with the raiding costs? (For example
our guild usually pays the repairs on wipe nights, and we use the
fish feasts heavily. Then again, the Alchemist cache, the scavenging
and mining that you can do in Ulduar all needs to be deposited to
our Guild bank, from where people can buy them for around half the
usual AH costs.)
Oh, and you mentioned already using Auctioneer. It has some very nice
options and features though it does need some setting up to get it
working well. Another one I've found to be a very handy addon is
Lilsparky's Workshop from
http://www.wowace.com/projects/lil-sparkys-workshop/
Basically it snatches item pricing info from Auction addons and item
price databases and adds 2 columns to your tradeskill window. The
other has the material costs, and the other projected profits.
