Mine was during the STV fishing tournament.
If you don't know, the fishing tourney is extremely competitive. You
get a lot of harassment, from people fishing in your pool, to people
standing on your bobber, to people just out right fighting over pools.
From both alliance and horde. Yes, your own side will harass you
during the tourney.
I realized I belonged to a PvP server, because I solved the harassment
issue by killing every single horde toon who got in my way. And I
wanted to do the same to every single alliance toon that got in my
way, but obviously, I couldn't do that.
And that's when I knew I belonged to a PvP server. Because on a PvP
server, you can retaliate against harassment by the other side.
Has that come back to bite me? It sure has. I know for a fact that my
guild is kill on sight by horde, so I've definitely been on the
receiving end. But I'd rather have the option of fighting back than
taking the harassment.
I've read a ton of posts about people on PvE servers who complain
about quest givers getting killed, about standing on quest mobs, just
to get someone flagged for PvP, etc. That just doesn't happen on a PvP
server. The rules of engagement are crystal clear. Either you kill
each other, or you leave each other alone. There's no middle ground.
You kill a quest giver that I need? It's throw down time, right here,
right now. And you'd better believe that I'm calling for backup in
guild chat and zone chat.
Finally, if raiding is your thing, or if arenas are your thing, nearly
all the top raiding guilds and nearly all the top ranked arena players
are from PvP servers. Not RP-PvP, just plain PvP servers. And I'm not
talking slightly in PvP's favor, but dramatically in PvP's favor. Like
75% of the top 200 raiding guilds are from PvP servers, and 90% of all
arena players ranked over 2000 are on PvP realms. Don't believe me?
Look up the guild progression websites or the arena ranking websites.
The size of the skew definitely surprised me when looked it up.
I guess I agree. My moment where I realized I belonged on a PVP
server was when this warrior was in the lower 30's, and was in Alterac
Mountains or somewhere. This druid 2 levels higher than me tried to
attack me, and I killed him off. Then 5 mintues later he brought
another druid same level as him, and I thought I should run but I said
screw this, stood there and took them both on, and I won! The rush was
great, and that moment I knew pvp was for me.
