Well, I haven't played horde (not lack of interest but of time :-) so I can
only speak for alliance. In my experience the bread crumb quests in the old
world are not quite as fool proof compared to BC and especially WotLK but
they *do* exist. I have just taken up levelling my rogue (from 5 to 13 so
far) and while I have moved from Dun Morogh to Loch Modan, there was at
least a quest sending me to Stormwind which could potentially open up
Westfall and I seem to remember there are quests sending you to Shimmering
Flats (don't recall from where),

Stranglethorn I think, the goblins trade with each other.
