I know..
A trick question.
I just had to post it because some nosy person examined my priest in
the armory and looked under statistics and noticed that my number of
respecs was 1.
So this person found it odd and stated that I had my initial spec on
some patch launch (or some such) and that I merely built upon it as I
progressed from level 70 to 80.
Actually the truth is this. At 70 I put in my spec at the patch and
even held off for some time on progressing (pulling the old Diablo
trick) and waited till I gathered more info over the passing weeks and
when I hit level 76 or 77 I popped the unused points and then added
one each level after that.
Off the top of my memory I think my build is 23/48/0. Does that sound
right? I have the Divine Spirit point and the two in improved Divine
Spirit.
In a raid with full buffs I think my spell is at about +2300, varies
on the food and buffs and my Mp5 hovers around 400, mostly in the
390s.
I have a decent mixture of specs on my gear which is what Dwarfpriest
recommends and I save many different pieces of gear in case I
recognize that I would need it for a specific fight. My haste is
almost 10%. I have a green trinket still but I do have blues in the
bank and they mostly have Mp5 on them so I went with my green that
supplies + spellpower, because I have mentioned that mana management
has not been an issue. I am on the lookout for a better trinket. In
the meantime I am getting badgered by some players because I have one
green trinket. I probably appear to be a noob but if I am it is on
purpose, hah hah.
My glyphs are the 10% mana reduct on Flash Heal, the Renew one and for
now I have settled for the PW:S which heals but I want to replace that
one and as soon as my Scribe learns a better one I will change to that
one. I can t remember what that is, maybe it is Greater Heal.
I built my WotlK build pretty much on the same principle of the advice
I received from all of you here during the TBC campaign. Divine Spirit
with a good mix of the Holy Tree.
The problem with that is that we aren't in the TBC campaign anymore,
the healing mechanics have chaged quite a bit. I wouldn't put any more
than 14 points into Discipline and I certainly wouldn't put any points
into Improved PW: S or Silent Resolve as you have. I'd suggest
rereading the Dwarf Priest blog or the Elitist Jerks forums to get a
better handle on healing gear/specs etc.
I'm not top on the healing meters when I go to 25 man raids but that
don't mean diddly to me, I'm not in a contest. And I am a stubborn
pisser who would likely request to be replaced rather than go out and
respec at this point. Perhaps I approach healing from a different
perspective. I mean someone has to be thinking "That mage can't die,
we need his leet DPS for this fight" or "This is a good time for a CoH
on the tank because the boss just lightly smashed everyone up close so
I will get them topped off" or "What' this? the tank has 100 rage?
Then a PW:S is not going to hurt now". Yeah I think weird sometimes
but someone has to look into the utter oddball oddities of this game.
BTW, I like my build and gear and it's all your fault.
That's why I love you all!!
OH! OH! OH!

Does 14 in Discipline get through to Improved Divine Spirit? I can't
remember if the new spec tree has kept it at the 20s level or moved it
down to the 15s level.
If so I guess I will be the odd priest out because for sure I am not
dumping that talent.
Orion
I haven't used Improved Divine Spirit since WotLK was released and I
don't miss it. It's not a must-have talent and getting it means you're
sacrificing other talents that would be more beneficial.- Hide quoted text -

Of course you haven't used it.
Because you don't have it.
let me rephrase that in a way you will comprehend. I haven't included
Improved Divine Spirit in my spec since WotLK came out, nor do i ever
find myself in a situation where i'm going "Damn, I wish I had
included IDS in my talent spec". If anything, i think that the talents
that are avaialble in deep holy by only going 14 points into the Disc
tree outweigh the beneifts of having IDS.
Perhaps my having it has benefited me and perhaps it has benefited
others in the raid.
Actually, if you have a mage, shaman and warlock in your raid, the
benefit was just about nil. The mage and/or the shaman will provide
comparable spellpower buffs and the warlock will provide a spirit buff>When 3.1 comes out it looks like there will be a forced respec. Until
then that talent is not going anywhere.
At this point with 3.1 arriving soon with the accomanying free respec,
I'm not suggesting that you do anything at all other than think about
what your respec will look like.

Well I have not been kicked from any raids because someone "caught" me
casting ImpDS on the group.
And it sounds like what you are telling me is that the mage and shaman
buffs either overwrite my IDS or if already up my IDS would result in
no change. But that is not what I observed.
From a lifetime of playing team sports I can say this. If every guard
on a basketball team was a shooting guard that is not optimal. If
every running back on a football team was a cut and slasher they are
missing something for sure.
This is more a case of having two point guards available to fill one
position and but one of them has to play with one hand tied behind his
back and his shoelaces untied. Yes he might be able to get the job
done, but it's gonna be messy.
So my build is crappy and worthless?
No, just inefficient.
It's that bad? That an analogy of a point guard with one hand tied and
shoelaces opened up explains just how awful having this talent is? And
in 3.1 this worthless talent is going to become a skill so that now
every point guard can play with one hand tied and shoelaces open?
Perhaps I was exaggerating a little, how about if the point guard just
has his shoelaces untied...... Once again you're missing the point.
It's not that it's a bad talent, it's just too high up in the
discipline tree to be able to justify investing the talent points over
over what investing those points deeper in the holy tree would net.
From here on until Patch 3.1 Joemamma, everywhere she goes, shall beknown as the biggest, worthless bunch of bullocks what ever stampeded
into a raid.
Perhaps someone might argue that the team mixture I use as an analogy
above does apply to WoW, howeever they would be hard pressed to
convince me that this is the case.
Last night the PuG that I was in that earned the achievement in heroic
OS with one drake up did not say anything like "Yeah, we did it even
though this priest here had IDS".
That probably says more about the quality of the PUG than it does
about whether or not IDS made a difference. The point that you're
missing is that your spec could be a whole lot better than what it is
and your insistance that IDS is necessary is blinding you to that
fact.
So I made things harder for the PuG?
no, it probably would have turned out exactly the same without ids
Maybe there should be an achievement along the lines of "Defeating
XXXXXXX with an IDS priest in the party"..
Oh well I guess when I am asked to raid I will warn the raid leader
and/or raid that I have Improved Divine Spirit.
Now I guess I have to start a thread askiing what kind of talents
might be useful with 3.1 here and on our guildsite.
You know that I'm going to tell you the same things on the guild
website that I'm telling you here : )- Hide quoted text -
Well the thread is about builds for 3.1. You can tell me in either
place.
I just want to post both places because this place is easily
accessible during the daytime.
And I have friends in both places.
