*sighs* and all I get from Blizzard Support is firstly a canned
response that has precisely zero relevance (showing my email was not
even read - they clearly went from the subject alone), and then
(after I replied pointing out funnily enough my problem had not
magically gone away) "Background Downloader is a convenience. It
will not affect your ability to get the patch when it does go live.
If it's not working, simply turn it off.".

Ah-huh. Well excuse my scepticism if I have trouble believing it work
right on patch day when you can't even work out how to make a working
downloader app.

I just Download it myself, faster , easier, doesnt throttle the
machine. Stuff blizzard and thier crappy dload
software, do it yourself

Never had a problem with the background downloader.
I strongly suspect the error is on your part.

You want to run that one by me again? I'm MAKING the BG Downloder
f**kup? I had no idea my powers extended that far!

If you spent half the time you have spent whining about it, working
through logically what is happening - you would probably have resolved
it by now.

And when you do find out whats wrong - you will probably find that
Thomas was right.

good luck

Ok, you don't know what a FW is/have not understood the problem I'm
having. Thanks for wasting my time.

Sorry, that was quite rude. I'm just a little ticked off at this problem
and Blizzard's dumb response to it. I know people often don't understand
firewalls or why one running in a router can't reach out and touch (so
to speak) an app running on a computer and affect it's operation (beyond
preventing network connections the app is using, of course).

In general terms a firewall <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewall> is
only (in my case anyway) allowing/disallowing transmission of data based
on rules I've set. It cannot make Blizzard's BG Downloader run in a
buggy manner. An improperly configured FW can PREVENT BG Downloader from
getting patch data, but it does NOT CHANGE that data or the app's
handling of data it already has.

I hope that helps :-)

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
