Re: Broken PC :-(

I think it was Zil <zen13097@xxxxxxxxx> that wrote something like...

There I was on Saturday morning , with my multi-box team (now all just
around the level 79 mark), thinking that I'd either hit 80 on Sunday
or, failing that, next weekend, when all of a sudden my PC's screen
went black.

I tried to reboot - lights & fans come on, and I can hear the hard
drives power up, but that's all. I replaced the graphics card with a
known-good one, but that made no difference. I swapped RAM sticks
around to no effect. So I'm thinking it's either a partial PSU
failure or, more likely, a motherboard or CPU fault.

At least the machine is still under warranty but (as always seems to
happen), it stopped working 30 minutes after the support line closed,
and they don't re-open until Monday.

So here I am on my lower-spec Linux machine, seeing if I can figure
out how to run WoW on Wine. It won't be able to run my multi-box
setup, but I might be able to run one toon, at least.

What's really frustrating is being so close to 80 on 5 toons (with
a whole day free), and not being able to play. :-(

/me goes off for a good sulk

I've had similar problems at times. Usually in hot weather. Not
exactly sure what's going on, but I need to unplug the computer and
take the battery out of the motherboard for 10 seconds or so to reset
the bios. Then it'll boot up fine, (though it'll only be running at
1000 instead of 1866 so I need to go back into the bios and reset the
settings)
My computer's been doing this for a couple of years now but is
otherwise doing fine.
