So I get my reset password and log in. I find my warlock moved to a
different realm, as well as renamed. I zone in and find him standing
in the inn in Thrallmar. Standard story here, everything that could
have been sold was sold off, all my gold gone. Great, now I have to
get my items and gold restored as well as get the transfer reversed.
Jesus, I can't even believe this. I hope you get it all taken care. I
would be crushed if this happened to me. This makes me want to do
something to further protect my account, but I don't know what.
Get an account authenticator, maybe?
Xymmie
Sure. Costs only $6.50 in the US. Just one small problem:
If people really are stealing your passwords and reading your screens with
malicious software, isn't worrying about someone taking over your WoW
account just about the least of your worries?
So, to get a device that protects my WoW account from key loggers, all I
have to do is type my credit card number, name, address, phone number,
credit card key, and other vital personal information on the input form...

I work in a pretty busy insurance agency for a pretty big company. We hear
a lot of stories about cc theft. I can't think of one story that didn't
trace back to a store/restaurant/other face-to-face vendor and *not* an
on-line business.
People give their account information over the phone to catalog companies,
they send their information via email, they fall for phishing -- whether
phone or email, they hand their card to a waiter/waitress, who leaves the
table to complete the charge transaction.
I'm not going to worry too much about a legitimate web site. YMOV

All very true. Which is one reason we have insurance and laws protecting credit card holders in the first place.
So, can you get character insurance for World of Warcraft? :-) I could see it now: "For just a small monthly premium in gold we will insure your character's blue items against loss or damage, with the following exceptions: acts of declared war, damage caused by the Scourge, damage caused by jumping off the Aldor Rise, involuntary sale of the equipment by an Auctioneer in order to pay debts of the character, and Acts of the Light..."
