Being fair, shamans get that a bit too - my shaman gives up and melees
on fast attack speed mobs because I have to get crit in order to not
lose cast time on lightning bolt and my shocks have 6 sec cooldown (ok
5.8 sec but I couldn't afford the other 4 talent points to get it down
to "only" 5 sec..) Although flametongue at least means attacks which hit
do reasonable damage (though so should seal of righteousness on a
paladin, similar idea).

I still miss loads but having said that the forthcoming changes to make
hit/crit apply to *both* spells and melee will help a lot, albeit I
currently aim for zero spellhit due to the fact that talents cover all
I'll ever need as a non-raider.

Then of course, take something like Hammer Justice. I've long heard
that it goes through two resist checks - melee and magic (or whatever
it is called) - which is one of the reasons it resists so much. Well,
silly! Just get some +spell hit. Yes, I'm talking to you, Mr.
Retribution Paladin. What's that, you say? You need strength/agility/
AP/etc. because you're melee? Sorry, need spell hit!

Again, that should be fixed in WotLK thankfully - it's annoying for
hybrid classes currently though, I agree, needing 2 types of hit is just
daft!

Oh, and be glad there's no holy immune mobs... killing air elementals is
so fun - frost shock, walk backwards, plant searing totem, flame shock,
then melee until frost shock is off cd, joy. Plus swear a lot when you
forget and automatically use earth shock out of habit :-P

Maybe its just me, but I define a spell caster as one that casts
damaging spells from a distance as their primary form of attack. A
holy paladin doesn't quite fit that definition as their damage is done
though magic-enhances melee abilities. Same goes for an enhancement
shaman. An elemental shaman I would call a spell caster. A holy
paladin I would call a healer, not a spell caster, although their
healing is done through spells.

Its tricky I guess, but I think thats where a lot of the confusion
over some classes comes in at. People who roll a paladin expecting to
be some kind of jack of all trades are in for a rude awakening when
they find they have limited access to ranged abilities. Maybe the
descriptions of some of these classes and specs should be updated to
more accurately reflect how they do what they do. Paladin attacks
should be defined as melee enhanced by magical abilities, same with
the enhancement tree for shaman.
