I hate that aspect of Amazon. I go to Amazon to buy from a reputable
online seller - I don't want to buy from some small merchant that is
advertising through Amazon. Also, I don't want to go to some other
merchant who has a different set of terms and conditions. Sometimes,
the vendors are even based in other countries and don't send UK spec
items. I've heard of people getting stuff from France that didn't
even have an English plug or manual.
I don't use Amazon so much anymore because of this. Play.com is my
preferred DVD / Games / Music shop now.

I believe Amazon tells you if what you are purchasing is coming from
another vendor.
They do, but it's just written in fairly small text and I can see how
the mistake could be made if you weren't aware of the fact that they
provide a shop-front service for smaller vendors. I'd really like the
search results to specify the vendor - the only clue you have there is
that some items will be eligible for free delivery but others won't.
When you do a search, it usually shows you 2 things for the price.
First is a price that says "New from:" with a price listed. This is
Amazon's price. Second is "New & used from:" which is a 3rd party
vendor price. If it just says "Used and new from:", then its only
from the 3rd party vendor.
I don't think I have ever come across a situation where "New from:"
was not the Amazon price.
Maybe the UK store is different. Search for medicarn in Sports &
Leasure. The first result is Medicarn Body slimmer Vibration Massage
Plate With support bars & Power Cords and says Buy new: 129.99 with no
Used & New section. This item is sold by InternetukShop, not Amazon.
To be honest, I'd rather not even have the box, the manual etc. I'd
rather just download it all except for the fact that it would be very
slow compared to getting it on disk(s).
I can't even imagine the nightmare attempting to download that game
would be on release day. Somehow I think it would just be faster to
visit the store and actually buy the retail package.
It would. The only reason why I'd prefer to download it is that I
don't want the waste of getting packaging that I don't want. There's
no way I'd choose to download it even if it were available on day 1 by
download. My green streak just isn't big enough to go through that
painful experience. :P
