I don't expect to play too often on this new machine, but I'd still like to be able to run WoW.

The launcher works, but I can never connect to the game. I'm sure it's a Vista thing as I can still connect on my desktop.

What should I try first?

I realized I should provide a few more details. My laptop is a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista Home Premium. It's a 32 bit system. My video card is a GeForce 8600M GT. Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 4G Ram.

I was able to install WoW yesterday, and downloaded the patches. Today I installed BC, but when I tried to log on, it says "Connecting", then "Unable to Connect". (I don't think I even tried to log on before installing BC, but since then, no patches have been "prompted" to download. No 2.4., no 2.4.2, etc.)

I've tried running WoW as administrator. I've checked the McAfee firewall and that's all good. Windows firewall is disabled.

What else should I try? I was hoping to not have to uninstall and reinstall the whole thing, but I will if that might solve things. :)

Not sure what to suggest. I have the same laptop and play wow fine. I disabled the McAfree software immediately when I got the machine and installed AVG free antivirus which has always done the job for me. Windows firewall is on.

I tried disabling McAfee and still couldn't connect. I havn't yet tried uninstalling it and using AVG (though I downloaded it).

However, I didn't reinstall WoW, I copied it across the wireless network from my desktop. You could try that?

Have you tried a traceroute to the wow servers? Or pinging them?

Yes. I released, renewed, flushed DNS, added all of the ports listed by Blizz, approved the IP addresses of my realms, and ran a traceroute, which I've send to Blizzard Support.

This is what I got:

Of course, I have no idea what it means other than I can't connect. :/
