One of the many reasons I've switched to keyboard (tab) targeting.
Careful using that during instance runs.

Bah, humbug. I can come clean now - I used to tab target ALL THE TIME
during the Rend event in UBRS. I DID! And I never got a mob I
shouldn't have. So neener neener all you "no tab targeting" raid
leaders!
TAB targeting is great! I'm an addict for sure. However it does have a
bunch of serious problems:
- Target order is unpredictable -- if there are four mobs and you have
one targeted, tab will usually not change your target on the first press
or maybe it will, and two or three tabs will often re-choose your first
target rather than cycling through the other mobs in some logical order.
- It seems to be limited to a 90-degree frontal arc with a 30-yard or so
range. This is really lame when you want to tab to a target 50 degrees
to your right and 40 yards away, well within range and facing of a
fireball. Now you have to turn and move forward or just give up on tab
and click to target after wasting a couple combat seconds dealing with
it.
- Nearby mobs that are on a floor beneath or above, or on the other side
of a wall will often chew up your tabs and it may take 10 presses to get
to the relevant mobs again. The lost time can really screw you up
especially if you're a tank and lose aggro to a healer in the delay.
For all those reasons I've gotten more into basic click-targeting. A
little Blizzard programming effort could fix the tab-targeting problems
but I'm not holding my breath.
