What are they selling that they don't own? The gold?

Yup. And any other in-game objects they may buy/sell.

Isn't that their gold that their bots earned one way or another?
Like my gold or yours that we earned one way or another?

The "gold" is data on Blizzard's servers. Blizzard own that data.
You own nothing of that, regardless of what actions or time you may
have spent getting that data to be what you want ("lots of gold").

If that seems strange to you, imagine the complications if you did
own it - Blizzard would never be allowed to ban your account or
delete your characters because doing so would destroy or remove your
access to your own property! That's a whole huge mess of property
law that MMOs just don't want to get into, so they all say the same
thing up front and have you agree to it BEFORE you play - all data
belongs to them, not you.

You don't even own your account - your account is effectively
permission to access their servers and associated data. That's why
you can't sell that, either, or let other people use it. You do not
have the right to decide who accesses Blizzard's servers and
data - only they do.
