Why is spell hit rating so important for a mage? I've never cast aSpell Hit Rating is an almost insignificant stat until you start
spell
that didn't hit my target so I don't get why it's so important for
pve.
I've had resistance but that isn't connected to spell hit rating is
it?
Can somebody explain that one to me please?
Scott
raiding.
A
boss requires 16% hit from gear and/or talents to achieve the hit cap.
Hit
rating is the single most effective stat for increasing DPS on a boss
until
you attain the 16% ceiling.
so are you saying if i dont' raid but do non heroic instances its not
any good to have? Just curious as i can put +spell dmg gems in the
sockets instead of spell hit gems.
your spell hit chance then countering that with extra spell hit chance
might
be a smart move but it's a very fine line, crit is still a very important
stat in PvP even with all the resilience gear around.
Here is the spell hit information you're looking for but remember, it
isn't
just the opponents level you need to consider in PvP, they may well have
talents you need to counter.

Ahhh correct me if i'm wrong but an affliction warlock has no crit.
Maybe a destro one does but all my gear has low crit. i think I have
a 9% crit rating.
Ok so if i have 5 points into suppression then i have 10% of the
required 16% already but only for affliction spells and except for the
occasional SB that's all i got. I did respec so i could have the UA
as its an extra 1.1k of dmg that comes in handy no matter what. I
don't do much PvP anymore. I got what I wanted out of it only to find
out that the armor i have isnt' worth spit in instances or raids.
AAARRRGGGGHHHHHH
I think this is the first time i've responded to what i had to say.
according to this page
http://www.wowwiki.com/Spell_hit_rating
i have 6% suppression and the chart says i need 126 into +spell hit. i
only have 87 and with one trinket removed its at 65. If I resped (and
its the cheapest to do) I can put a total of 5 points into suppression
and the chart says that all i need is 76 points into +spell hit.
Now if this is true then with any further gear i get i'll put +spell
dmg then. I did lose some stamina on doing this but if i can stand in
the background i might not get hit too many times.
relative to the content you're up against. On boss fights for all DPS
casters spell hit is the single most important stat until capped (point for
point) but even that has to be balanced against what, if anything, is being
given up to achieve the hit cap.
For example dropping lots of spell damage and/or crit to gain a small extra
hit chance is just silly.
This is why casters will have an exclusive boss fight gear set, hit rating
stacked as high as possible while maintaining effective DPS which is simply
not needed on any content other than lvl 73 bosses.
