Dinging 70

I am only the 3.39 x 10^34 person to reach level 70, but I just did it
with my first character (Alliance Feral Druid), solo and unguilded.
Truly an exciting sense of accomplishment! Took me 6 months of casual
playing, but I also spent a lot of time in front of the AH learning
its nuances and a couple of weeks at 49 and 59 farming BG honor.
Didn't even go the bank alt route until my main moved to Outland, so I
wasted time with the back and forth travels.
I'm happy to say that minutes after I hit 70, I bought my elite flying
training and mount with my AH "winnings". Had enough gold left over
to buy half a burger and 3 fries! I'll eventually do the Druid swift
flight form quest, but I had the extra gold and wanted the faster
travel speed immediately. What a rush (literally) with the rate of
speed increase over the normal flight form! Keep looking over my
shoulder to see if the Outland cops are chasing me down. Bathroom
breaks while flying to a remote destination will never be the same.
I guess the only disappointment in hitting 70 was that there was no
instant party or anything. Visually it was just like hitting any
other level. No red carpets, scantily clad night elven princesses, or
instant beer kegs appearing. Too bad; I think Blizz could do a bit
more in recognizing the achievement. Maybe I won't feel that way when
I'm 92 years old and get my second character to 70.
Ok, enough self-aggrandizing braggadociousness. My power rush feeling
of invincibility came to a quick and crashingly inglorious end as I
died 3 times within 5 minutes of making 70, LOL. I was
disrespectfully treating Shadowmoon Valley like I would Shadowglen in
Teldrassil. On one of the deaths I ended up going over a cliff and
having to spirit res--very embarrassing. Immediately afterward, I
thought Blizz might rescind my new level and demote me to 69 because
of behavior unfitting a top level character.
Still, it's funny how one's perception can change. I definitely had
that inkling of invincibility for a short period of time until I
realized hey, I'm just another level 70 goon. I chalk up the feeling
to 'toon endorphins run amuck.
So what to do now? Another 6 months of equipment upgrades and
learning to pvp halfway decently awaits. For those who get bored with
their first char right after hitting 70, I don't see how. There's
still so much to explore and many goals to achieve. I also hope to
join a decent and mature guild to enjoy a bit more interaction with
others and run some instances. Hope none of them were watching when I
did my triple lutz into the abyss... ;)
