So, I decided to roll this new group. Yes, I will tend to hit the same
instances at the same time. But most of the leveling will happen in
different zones. For instance, some of them are in Redridge right now,
while others are in duskwood, and yet more are in the wetlands. Also
since each character so far doesn't get played every day, and since
the play style of each class is different, a lot more variety is
available. And as a nice side effect, if I want to do an instance and
we're missing a key position (tank, healer, dps, ...) I can always
switch to a character that fills the missing role.

That sounds like something I usually do.

How do you manage to transfer items? I tested it and double logging-in just
bumps one off the server. And there doesnt seem to be a way to drop/hide
things.

Just mail the items to whatever character you want.
I do suggest getting an addon that keeps track of the items you have with
your various characters. That way you can check if something is an upgrade
or not before mailing it off. I'm using ArkInventory for that purpose, but
there are other addons that work as well.

Not that its a big problem. I have an advantage that my son is down the
hall and he is playing also. So basically we are doing what you are doing
but with two accounts at once. That also allows us to form a guild maybe
later. That looks handy but seems to have the same problem that someone
must be on to bring you into it.

Yes, getting a single account guild can be annoying. But it's an annoyance
that you just have to do once. Just get the guild formed and get a friend
into the guild. Promote the friend so he can give invites. Cycle thru all
your characters to get them into the guild and then remove all guild members
who aren't one of your characters. I did that with my own set of characters
and I told potential charter signers exactly what I was doing so there was
no misunderstanding when I had them all removed from the guild.
