My wife and myself are going to start WOW. We are both over 40 and might

When looking at realms, the normal role-playing (non-PVP) looks like a
good choice for us.
Question, there are so many active realms (servers yes?) out there how do
we find one that would be a good choice for us?
What does 'population' indicate on the realm status page
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/realmstatus/
Another question, does the game support microphones for player to player
(team?) communications? We have these, but are they used with any
frequency or recommended, or not?
Any other suggestions or information for newbies on things to consider or
do or avoid to make getting started gameplay more enjoyable?
TIA!
as for voice communication, theres the ingame voice option since patch 2.2
but the quality is not all that good compared to teamspeak or vent.
since voicechat ingame is something new alot of people used these 3rd party
programs to communicate (for raiding i'd say its really prerequisite).
with these programs still beeing on the machines of many people they will
probably prefer their old solutions.
